Approx times: Prep: 15 min - Marinating: 2-4 hrs - Cook: 45-60 min
Ingredients
Serves 4
  • 1 lb pork belly, skin-on, cut to bite-sized
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
  • Pat the pork belly pieces dry with paper towels. Score the skin with a sharp knife in a crosshatch pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat.
  • In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey or maple syrup, garlic powder, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Place the pork belly in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade in, making sure all pieces are coated. Marinate in the refrigerator for 2-4 hours, if time allows.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place the pork belly pieces skin-side up on a wire rack set over a baking sheet.
  • Roast in the oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the skin starts to crisp up and render fat. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  • Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C).
  • Turn the pork belly pieces skin-side down and continue to roast for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  • Remove the crispy bites from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
  • Serve hot as an appetizer or snack, with your favorite dipping sauce.
