  • 2 lbs beef roast (such as chuck or sirloin)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 4 crusty rolls or hoagie buns
  • Sliced peppers and onions (optional)
Directions
  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • Season the beef roast with garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and dried basil. In a hot skillet, sear the beef on all sides until browned.
  • In a bowl, mix beef broth, water, red wine vinegar, and soy sauce.
  • Place the seared beef in an ovenproof dish, pour the braising liquid over it, cover with foil, and bake for 3-4 hours.
  • Remove the beef from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, use two forks to shred the beef into thin slices.
  • To assemble the sandwiches, place a few slices of beef on each roll or bun and top with sliced peppers and onions, if desired.
  • Serve the sandwiches hot, with a side of au jus for dipping, if desired.
